After taking a class, I began to realize some things. The people in the Corvette community are fortunate in that all of us by and large have possibility alive for us. I know that’s true because we all have Corvettes and they didn’t just fall out of the sky for us. We all created the possibility of having a Corvette and then fulfilled that possibility.

There are however a large number of people in this world that have lost possibility. Most of us know of families for which this is true. These families have been stuck in a rut of impossibility for so long that all possibility is gone. There is no hope, no dreams, only despair.

Another thing that I came to realize is that the Corvette community rarely shares with others less fortunate. It’s not that we don’t donate to charity, most of us do that, it’s that we don’t realize what it’s really like to fully share of ourselves with others. It is an incredible feeling and can not be experienced by writing out a check.

Tim’s Challenge was created to give our club the opportunity to share of ourselves with others in a way that creates a space in the lives of others where possibility can be brought back to life. It offers a chance to truly experience giving.

In 2001, I challenged the club to support five families for Christmas. The families had to be families known to our club members and had to have lost their way. Club members contacted these families, got Christmas lists, raised money to purchase gifts and food, shopped for the gifts, wrapped the gifts and then delivered them to the families in need. The goal is to create a space where the everyday worries of the world disappear – if only for a bit – and possibility is renewed.

The club members had a good time gathering together to shop for the gifts and food as well as wrapping the gifts. Time spent with other club members is always a wonderful time. However, what none of us were prepared for was the impact on both us and the families we were creating possibility for. I now understand the expression “to share is divine”. The experience of restoring possibility after it has been lost touches both you and them down to the very bottom of the soul. It can not be described, but must be felt.

Tim’s Challenge is now an annual event for our club. Fund raising is done year around though raffles and donations. Your support for this event is greatly appreciated by all of us at Down the Road Corvettes.

Thanks for sharing possibility.

Tim
