A few closing
words from the Prez….
Well, it’s hard to believe the year is
almost over. We have seen many fantastic events and quite a few firsts this
year. To name a couple events of that
made this year a real “CORVETTE SUMMER“, The Caravan & the Convention,
(held in Co. Springs). The Firsts’ for
our club, but to name a couple, first time car show off site from the dealer,
(19 club cars), excellent attendance by
club members for our show, and supporting other club events, and lastly, how
about an Award for Club Attendance for a non-Corvette event, (all cars
welcome), in Gunnison.
This months’ meeting brings a “full plate” to the
agenda. We have last minute nominations for club officers, (last chance to get
your name in). VOTING, better be there or you might not get your favorite
elected. Also, we have to pick/vote on a deserving couple or family for “Tims’
Challenge”, what are we going to do? Lastly, how about them dues??? Time to pay
up, this month!!
2009 has brought many changes, economy, lay-offs,
jobs, retirement illness’s, new cars, (Roger & Maxima L., Tim & Pat
B.), extra Corvettes, (Dave & Wanda C.) to name a few. We have all known or
heard of some-one that has been affected by these changes, but like a friend
told me once, “Spend it like there is no tomorrow, but, keep five dollars just
in case”!!! Even though there are two months left this year, I would like to take
a minute to thank all the committees and members for their support of your club
officers. It would not have been possible to have such a good year without you
guys!!!!
Generally speaking, hopefully, your officers have
brought a level of humor and injected fun into our meetings. Let’s continue to
have fun & not take everything so seriously, our club is by choice, none of
us has to be there, we do it for the camaraderie, fun, excitement, and
knowledge of others with the same interests as ours.
See you all at the meeting,
Mike
Miscellaneous ramblings from
the Editor:
Where oh where did the Corvette summer go to?
The calendar shows only 6 events left for the year! Our last club meeting of
the year is here as well.
Even though this season is drawing to a
close, I have to look back on it and realize that it seemed extremely short,
the events that we did were a blast. I don’t know about you, but even though I
didn’t get to do all of the events that I would like to have done, the events
that Pat and I did do were way more fun than usual. I guess you could say that
we replaced quantity with quality. I would have a great deal of trouble remembering
a Corvetting season in which we had such a good time with such great friends.
In a few short weeks, the holidays will
arrive. I think that by and large, all of us have made it through the tough
times this year has brought to the world at least in as good a shape as we were
in when the economy began its precipitous fall. During the holidays, please
remember how fortunate we are to all have possibility in our lives and help others
in whatever way you can to look forward and not back. Having hopes and dreams
are what drives our lives and everyone deserves to have them.
As Mike pointed out above, remember that not
only are club dues due, but officer elections are at this coming meeting too. It
would be in your best interests to be in attendance at the meeting lest you
suddenly be elected president.
Thanks to all of our club members for a truly
awesome year. Remember, it took ALL of you to make it the great season it was.

A
message to the club
From Richard and Fancy Loch
Our first year in retrospect:
It hardly seems possible that
it has already been almost a year since Fancy drug me to our first DTRC
meeting. I went with her only because she would not take no for an
answer. It is not like me to be a joiner, I never go along with the crowd! But
I attended with her.
At the meeting everyone was
friendly and Fancy convinced me it would be OK to join, I went along
thinking with my work I had a built in excuse to never go to another meeting.
Boy was I WRONG!
The next
month she again talked me into going. While at the meeting, my
dear wife volunteered me to be the museum ambassador (she told me get involved
you will enjoy it more). Little did she know how right she was!
Shortly after that day I
found myself looking forward to club dates, the next meeting and wow our first
club event the April fools rally. I didn’t know what to expect, but
we were excited to go. What fun! Everyone treated us like we had been around
forever and we got our first trophy!
From then on I was
hooked. Since then it's me telling Fancy hurry up let's go! All of
you have treated Fancy and me great. From giving us tips that helped us
win our first car show at the aquarium to showing me the proper way to
lead the club members to Gateway, you have been very patient with
me. Now I could never imagine myself not being very involved.
We know we have made many
lifelong friends and look forward to many years of fun and adventures with our
second family at DTRC! Fancy thanks all of you for helping change my mind
about joining up and about only driving the car a couple hundred miles a year
(we put 7500 on this year, a first by a long way) Thanks again
for a fantastic year!
Richard
September
Mystery Meal
By Tim B.
The day dawned bright and
beautiful. The Corvettes and a few tag-a-long motorcycles gathered at their
appointed congregation point. And then the fun began! What a day it was!
The drive up I-25 was a zoo.
And then, neither Richard nor I could remember exactly where the American
Shelby Collection museum was!?!?! However, thanks to BlackBerry technology,
after a couple of interesting maneuvers, the first destination was found.
After a very pleasurable hour
or so inspecting racing history from the late 1950’s through the early1970’s,
it was off to the second destination. Oscar Blues brewery gave us a very
personal tour of their entire operation including some samples to quench our
thirsts! I must admit that Richard was quite disappointed when he discovered
the pallet of cans of what appeared to be TenFidy were really empty awaiting
filling. The pallet was about twice as tall as Richard.
After collecting some beads
and quenching our thirsts, it was off to our final destination, the birthplace
of TenFidy, Oscar Blues restaurant in Lyons. Parking was a little sketchy, but
all of us made it to a private dining area where they first canned their beers.
Lunch was outstanding and so was the company.
I’d like to thank an old
friend Mark Puzo and his grand-daughter Jillian for not only helping to make
all the arrangements, but also accompanying us on our journey.
Richard and I hope that those
of you who came along had a good time.
